Alex John Meyer...2008 graduate of Greensburg (IN) High School...as a senior was named AFLAC All-American and Louisville Slugger High School All-American; rated number five prospect in all of high school baseball by Baseball America; ranked number two prospect by Baseball America at Perfect Game's National Showcase in Cincinnati; named Gatorade Indiana Player of the Year and Louisville Slugger Indiana Player of the Year; named Indiana Mr. Baseball and First-Team All-State; earned EIAC Conference MVP honors and EIAC All-Conference honors...went 8-0 with a 0.95 ERA, 30 walks and 108 strikeouts as a senior...holds school records for most strikeouts in a season, career and lowest season ERA... three-year letter winner in baseball...played basketball four years and named All-Conference twice...played football as a freshman...spends time in the offseason as substitute teacher in hometown Greensburg (IN) schools (2011-14).

Played in second spring training with Twins and was optioned to Triple-A Rochester March 20, where he started the season....Tied minor league single-game career-high with 11 strikeouts in 6.0 shutout innings April 21 at Syracuse (ND)....Began season in Red Wings rotation, going 2-3, 7.09 ERA (39.1 IP, 31 ER) with 24 walks and 41 strikeouts in eight starts...Moved to bullpen in late May and made nine appearances, allowing one earned run in 17.0 innings pitched (0.53 ERA) with six walks and 20 strikeouts...
